Prep: Identify the necessary materials: iron, ironing board or flat smooth surface, a wrinkled garment, and hangers.
1. Check the garment tag. Note the fabric type and any special instructions. Turn the garment inside out, when possible.
2. Locate the temperature guage and setting that matches the fabric of your garment. While the iron is off, plug it in and set the temperature to the appropriate setting. Allow several minutes for the iron to reach the set temperature.
3. Place the garment flat on the ironing board or surface and smooth out large wrinkles and folds with your hands.
4. Place the iron face down on the garment and begin moving it in a smooth, continuous motion until all the wrinkles disappear.
5. Reposition the garment on the ironing surface to expose other wrinkled sections, then repeat step 4. Continue to reposition the garment until all sctions have been ironed.
6. When the garment is completely free from wrinkles, turn off and unplug the iron and allow it to cool for about 15 minutes before you put it away.
7. If you don't plan on wearing the garment right away, place it on a hanger to avoid re-wrinkling.
